We are pleased to welcome members of the Madding Crowd to Hedge End Methodist Church on Saturday 19th October at 7.30 p.m. The Madding Crowd specialises in music and singing from the times 1660 to 1861.
The concert celebrates the 350th anniversary of the birth of Susanna Wesley, who is often regarded as the ‘mother of Methodism’, using music and words from the Wesley family. Her son John (1703-1791) is regarded as the founder of Methodism, and his brother Charles wrote hundreds of hymns, some of the most well known being “Hark the Herald Angels sing”, “Love divine all loves excelling” and “O for a thousand tongues to sing”. But without the influence of Susanna, their talents might never have flourished.
